Music Empowers Foundation Matching Grant Program Benefits New Orleans Public School Children
Music Empowers Foundation announces a grant to DonorsChoose .org for a “Double Your Impact” program to help fund music education projects in New Orleans public schools. Under this program monies proved by Music Empowers will fund 50% of the cost of each eligible music project submitted to DonorsChoose.org by teachers in New Orleans. The remaining funding will be provided by small contributions from individuals made via DonorsChoose.org.
Thus far over a dozen projects have been funded impacting over 1,500 public school children in New Orleans. One of the programs funded is called “We Got Da Beat” for which the grant provided a new drum set for a high school band. Another funded program called “ Music Literacy: Help Bring Violin Books to our Music Class” resulted in the purchase of instruction manuals for a grade school strings program.
"We know we are having a real impact on kids in New Orleans," said Andy Davis, Founder of Music Empowers Foundation. "The thank you notes these kids send are incredibly touching; it is a real incentive for me to do even more." By the time the grant is completed, Music Empowers Foundation anticipates that dozens of projects will have been funded and thousands of children will have benefited. Following is a thank-you letter and pictures from just a few of the children who have benefitted:
